KhanYounis - The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution organized a round table in cooperation with the public campaign for community reconciliation and the media forum of south, about the role of media in supporting the national reconciliation efforts .
From his side, Mr. Fathi Sabbah , the correspondent of Al Hayat News paper, demanded a positive role for the media in order to participate in making the national unity and reconciliation, not a sabotage role pointed to the media which played a dangerous role in the split .
Also, he presented a historical show to the development of the Palestinian media and its role in the people unity of fronting and resisting the Israeli occupation policy .
On the context, Mr. Emad Mohsen assured on the success of the media and satellite channels in presenting the split a way from the official and national role that should encourage the national unity and using the expressions that help in increasing the split .
From his side, the coordinator of the public campaign for community reconciliation Mr. Abd Al-Menem Al-Tahrawy presented an explanation about the campaign that launched by the PCDCR in 2007, and about the reconciliation document which includes several files and helps to bring the views between the parties of conflict.
Also, he blamed the Palestinian media for their sabotage role towards the reconciliation process, and demanded from the journalists to be independents in order to support the reconciliation efforts.
On the other side, the journalist Mr. Salah Abu Salah asked the media not to be a tool the parties use for their special interests also, he praised the efforts of PCDCR towards the reconciliation process.
The community activist, Mr. A bed Rabu Abu Tayem asked for the independence of the media and to be far away from the parties .
The correspondent of Jerusalem Voice , Mr. Muthana Al-Najar asked for a law controlling the media in order not to deviate from the vocational and national role. also, he asked to provide a state of awareness directed to the media so as not to respond to the invitations which deepen the Palestinian split .
From his side, Mr. Sameer Al-Maqadma pointed to the necessity of forming media body in order to make the two sides of conflict achieve the reconciliation, also Mr. Osama Khreiss repeated the call to adopt media campaign in order to achieve the national reconciliation.
The correspondent of the Bethlehem Voice asked to unify the national media address, and the necessity of having a balanced journalist in telling the news.
At the end, the participants recommended the following:
• Boycotting the journalists who don’t have a united directions.
• The Palestinian journalist should keep the vacancy's ethics.
• Forming a media body serves the journalists who support the concepts of the national unity.
• The politician and media are partners in strengthening the principles of the national unity.
