The center implements a study about ” The sexual abuse of the children in Gaza Strip provinces “

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution conducted a study about ” The sexual abuse of the children in Gaza Strip provinces ” . This study is in the context of the center’s work that is primarily concerned with the protection of children through a programme of edification and guidance it implements since its establishment , as we noticed recently a rise in the number of the cases that have been sexually assaulted .
The study has been implemented in the first half of October, 2009 on a sample of 390 children of both sexes in the age of ( 8 – 15 ) .
The study has been applied in all Gaza Strip provinces and has been reached to the following results :
* 7% of the sample have been subjected to the sexual abuse .
* 5.55% of the cases that have been sexually assaulted , the offender was known to the child .
* 60% of the children in the sample, who were subjected to a sexual abuse , haven’t requested a help from anyone.
* 40% of the children in the sample , who have been sexually assaulted , haven’t told anyone about their exposure.
* Half of the sample have little information about the sexual abuse .
* One-third of the sample can’t distinguish between the good touch & the bad one .
* Half of the sample weren’t aware that the offender may be one of the family .
* 80% of the sample expected that their first reaction in case they had subjected to the sexual abuse , is screaming and escaping .
* More than 85 real story of sexual abuse against the children , has been recorded during the work of the study .
