The initiative included conducting a questionnaire about violence, its impact on children, and how much children in the community suffer from it.

Eight children are being trained on performing a play to send a message about violence and its impact and dangers.

Moreover, the initiative executed several workshops and educative sessions about this issue. In this regard, a brochure under the title “No violence against children” will be published and distributed on all associations in the local community.

In addition, a final celebration will take place in order to present all the implemented activities and to honor all those who participated to bring success to the initiative.

Children and Adolescents Cinema Making Festival for Protection

Fifty adolescences were trained through the workshops held about children protection issues, in particular harming. Another fifty were trained on production program, montage, writing stories and making films out of these stories at the aim of protecting children. In this regard, three films were produced.

The initiative takers are also preparing for a festival in which several activities and films aiming at protecting children will be presented. The festival will include 3000 children from Gaza Strip and the North Area.

Children Committee to Resist Violence

The team of the initiative formed a committee for children to resist violence through publishing a brochure and poster to announce about the committee which will include joining conditions. The committee will be formed via elections and training courses in order to select distinguished children.

This project gave children the opportunity to express their opinions. It also educates them about the notion of voluntary work and trains them to execute voluntary campaigns.
Field and home visits concentrated to educate people about child rights and to form a committee of parents to sustain children committee. The initiative team will announce about this project through radio series on one of the local radio stations. A magazine that documents the activities of the committee will be published periodically.

All the activities concluded by a final celebration that will be announced in the near future.

Speak Loudly

This initiative aims at training 6 teenagers from both sexes on presenting radio series about children protection. These series were broadcasted on El Iamn radio station. For an effective participation, the series were accompanied by media campaign to notify teenagers and the society about the time of broadcasting.
A web-site is constructed for publishing the different activities and subjects relating to children protection.

The team prepared for a final celebration for honoring all those who participated in bringing success to this initiative and for encouraging children to be creative and persistent.

A partnership Agreement with El R’bee Association of Social Service

Gaza. Continuation of the efforts of the Palestinian Centre, which includes providing psychological, legal and social counseling, that serve large segments of society, the Center signed, Tuesday 15 May 2008, a partnership agreement with El R’bee Association of Social Service for strengthening the child protection from violence and abuse. The partnership agreement was reached in the attendance of Mr.’s. Naeel El Magadma, El R’bee Association’s Manager, Younis El Tahrawi, Muder El Dany and Ahmad El Moghrapy, members of the PCDCR ‘s Legal Committee. This agreement comes in a cooperation process to provide legal and psychological service for minors where the Centre will adopt the minors’ cases that needs such aids. It is worth mentioning that the Center has provided social and psychological counseling services through its Counseling staff and has achieved many successes related to children. Agreement Terms: First: Legal cooperation: The Palestinian Centre legal unity’s representatives will provide any legal advice requested by El R’bee Association to minors located at its headquarters. Adopting cases from El Rabee’ Association as following: • Following-up the minor’s legal status. • Providing legal assistance and support for the minors represented by El R’bee Association (bail applications and following up the cases with the competent courts without incurring Palestinian Centre for any financial obligations). Second: Psychological counseling -The Center shall provide psychological assistance for El Rabee’ Association’s psychological counselors through its psychological staff upon the request of El Rabee’ Association. -Determined one day a week to visit El Rabee’ Association to follow-up minors cases who are in need of support and counseling services. -El Rabee Association shall be responsible for providing a suitable place for the psychological counselor and supplying him with anything he needs in order to perform his work. -El Rabee Association shall facilitate the lawyers’ and psychological counselors’ access to the minors’ cases files to study and follow them up legally and judiciary and to put a suitable counseling plan. The role of art works in combating different shapes of violence against women

PCDCR finishes its first art exhibition

Gaza.Within the activities that PCDCR launched on 25 November 2007, in commemoration of the International Day of Combating Violence against Women, PCDCR finished its first art exhibition which was held under the title “The role of art works in combating violence against women”.

The exhibition was held in coordination with Al-Aqsa University Dean of Student Affairs. It took place at the University’s conferences hole and lasted for seven days.

The Center announced for four cash prizes for the best four works of art that reflect the violence women are exposed to in the Palestinian society. The four works included a work of art, an expressive picture, a poster, and an embodied work of art.

Several faculties and university students including Fine Arts students attended the exhibition final celebration, where four participants were honored for their works by receiving US$100 each. Moreover, appreciation certificates were given to the participants whose works came in the fifth to the eleventh levels.

In attendance were Dr. Shfeeq Rodwan, Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts in Al-Aqsa University, Mr. Abdulmen’em El Tahrawi, Coordinator of Support and Empowerment of Women Victims to Violence Program, and Mr. Mohammed El Natour, Officer of university activities.

Dr. Rodwan highlighted the important role of civil society’s institutions in spreading none-violence culture between university students. He appreciated the active role of PCDCR in combating social violence in general and violence against women in particular. In this regard, he called institutions to seriously consider art to reflect different shapes of violence in the Palestinian society.

Mr. Abdulmen’em El Tahrawi stated that this exhibition came within the activities of “Support and Empower Women Victims to Violence” program, which the Center implements at the aim of providing legal, psychological, and social consultations for women victims to violence. This exhibition, El Tahrawi added aimed at spreading culture of none-violence in the Palestinian society.

PCDCR Announces the Release of Child Protection Initiatives

Gaza.
The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution (PCDCR) in ‎partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund-UNICEF announced the release ‎of 20 initiatives in children protection in order to :‎
• Contribute to the protection of children and the reduction of violence and ‎exploitation.‎
• Encourage the children to think and plan for initiatives on child protection.‎
• Promote a culture of cooperation among the children imparting skills and ‎teamwork.‎
• Give the children the necessary skills to play a role in their community and ‎with their peers for change on issues that affect them.‎

Fields of initiatives:‎

Initiatives, that are concerned with child protection from violence and exploitation in ‎all its forms, will be selected through different fields, for example:‎
Media – artistic – culture – electronics – voluntary work – mobilization and influence – ‎sports and education.‎

‏Application conditions:‎

Applicants of Initiatives:‎

a)‎ A group of children : number 7-10, age 14-18 years‎
b)‎ A group of children from institutions dealing with children, where the role of ‎the institution will be the guide to the children who will implement the ‎initiative.‎
c)‎ The initiative should target all the layers of the community. ‎
d)‎ The idea of the initiative should be creative and distinguished.‎
e)‎ The initiative’s expense ranges that is required from the PCDCR between ‎‎1,500$- 2,500$‎
f)‎ The initiative should be implemented in a period that does not exceeds three ‎months.‎
g)‎ The initiative’s budget should cover the activities and events of the initiative ‎only.‎
h)‎ The provided service should be free for the targeted group.‎

Initiatives’ Applications assessment:‎
A specialized commission will evaluate the submitted applications under the ‎following criteria:‎

* The initiative should be in a harmony with the overall objective which to ‎contributing to the protection of children from violence and exploitation.‎
* The initiative should convene with the required conditions mentioned above.‎
* The creativity and distinguish of the initiative.‎
‎*‎ The possibility to implement the initiative practically.‎
* A rational distribution of the initiative’s budget on its items
according to the previous standards, the commission will choose the best 20 initiatives ‎from all governorates of Gaza strip. All the applicants will be informed with the ‎results, to implemented:‎

‎-‎ ‎12 initiative in the summer holiday and the beginning of the new school year ‎‎(August, September, October 2007).‎
‎-‎ ‎8 initiatives in the winter holiday and the beginning of the second semester ‎‎(January, February, March2008).‎

PCDCR will arrange a training course for three days in the skills of planning and ‎implementing of community action projects and child protection projects for the ‎children groups to acquire the necessary skills needed to implement their initiatives ‎‏

PCDCR organizes a workshop about Judgment

Gaza.

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution Center (PCDCR) ‎implemented a discussion session, in the PCDCR headquarter in Khan Yunis, entitled ‎‎” Reasons and results of delaying cases”, Some lawyers and interested from the NGOs ‎attended the session.‎

Younis El Tehrawi, Facilitator of the session, welcomed the attendance and gave an ‎idea about the project objectives and accomplishments, where he defined the ‎judgment system, explaining that judgment is important in these days.‎

El Tehrawi pointed to the problem found in the judgment system where 10 pass ‎without solving a case.‎
Moder El Dani gave and statistic contains the effects of the repeated strikes and the ‎judicial vacations.‎
The attendees discussed the reasons for delaying the cases:‎
‎-‎ Liabilities.‎
‎-‎ Lawyers.‎
‎-‎ judges. ‎
‎-‎ Reporting problem. ‎
‎-‎ Repeated strikes

Recommendations and the out comes of the session:‎
‎*‎ Appointing more judges ‎
* Implementing the result of the judging competition and appointing the winner ‎judges.‎
* Appointing a higher clerk to supervise the judges’ works.‎
* Questioning the employer who do not report.‎
* Separating the judgment system from the political and Partisan life.‎
* Providing security in the courts.‎
* Activating the role of the technical office of supervision on the courts.‎
* Forming a judicial police to implement the judicial sentences. ‎
* Reporting must come from the private companies

PCDCR opens two sections for domestic violence in Nablus, Hebron

Gaza.

Within the activities of the police and community mobilization for protection and development project, after nearly two years working with the police that included number of training sessions, meetings between citizens and police, opinion polls and surveys and series of episodes on the radio. The work started in the domestic violence department in the Hebron police station and this department is still receiving cases of domestic violence.

In a meeting with Colonel Yusuf Ezril, manager of the police in Nablus; it has been agreed on opening the department in the next 10 days, opening the department comes after 2 years of training and meetings with police officers, where a group of officers were nominated to supervise the domestic violence department in each of Nablus and Hebron.

This step comes in accordance with the objectives of the PCDCR, which are enhancing the role of the police in fighting the phenomenon of domestic violence, and strengthening the relationship between the citizen and the police.

There will a conference to announce the opening of the department organized by the PCDCR in each of Nablus and Hebron in cooperation with the police in the two governorates.

Marah band, PCDCR activators participate in the Pal’ child festival

Gaza.
With the cooperation of the Marah educational band, belongs to the Palestinian Development Forum (PDF), the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict (PCDCR) Resolution and its activators in child protection team participated in the Palestinian child festival organized by Zaiyed Bin Sultan School for Girls.

On the anniversary of the Palestinian child, the Marah band revived the festival by using puppet theater, entertainment plays, toys, cultural and sport competitions between the children.

This cooperation comes as coronation to the ongoing cooperation between the child protection teams activators in the PCDCR and the civil society organizations concerned with children.

The school headmistress, Mrs. Kareema Hammad, thanked the band and the activators for their efforts and activities to please the children.
The PCDCR implemented tens of festivals during the past year for children, that took place in all over the governorates.

The children were very active in the festival and full of joy and pleasure; especially in the dummies paragraph which the children participated in.
